HOW TO PICK THE COACH THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU

There are a lot of us business and sales coaches out there. Picking a coach is a very personal decision. Just because someone is a good or experienced coach, doesn’t mean he or she is right for you. I’m going to give you 5 vital tips for choosing your coach.

Before I do, I want to emphasize that there is one essential reason to work with a coach: to get the results you’re after. A coach cannot only help you solve your most pressing challenges, he or she can help you work smarter and increase your performance, so you achieve the results you want faster and more effectively than you would on your own. Oftentimes, a coach will help you surpass your own goals.

Here are 5 tips for choosing the coach that’s right for you:

1. Interview them. Some coaches will offer you a complimentary session or consultation. If they don’t offer, ask for it.

2. Above all, look for someone who relates well to you. Find someone who is respectful, asks good questions, and probes to understand you and your situation. Pay attention to how well they listen.

3. Avoid know-it-alls and blowhards. If a coach talks a lot about himself, how great he is, or starts telling you right out of the gate what you should do, my suggestion is to run the other direction. It’s not about how great the coach is or you fitting into the coach’s agenda; it’s about the coach fitting your needs and your agenda.

4. Don’t shop by price alone. Coaching fees can vary from $100 to $1000 a session. Remember that coaching is an investment in you and your business’ future. The right coach can help you multiply your income. For many professionals, one or two additional clients that they pick up as a result of the first month or two of coaching will more than pay for the cost of coaching for several months.

5. Finally, go with your gut. Don’t over-analyze. Your gut knows what’s right. Pick the coach that you feel is right for you. If you don’t have a positive gut feeling, interview another coach.

Remember: Working with the right coach can make big positive difference in your business growth, now and in the future. Take the time to pick the coach that’s right for you!
